This Department deals with Medicinal plants of Ayurvedic Classics, their identification, properties, action and therapeutic uses in accordance with fundamental Principles of Ayurveda. The dept has a well-maintained herbal garden with more than 250 species of herbs, shrubs and trees having medicinal values. The herbal garden aids in providing practical knowledge to the students for the identification of medicinal plants and also in the conservation of many rare species.
The department maintains a reference museum where samples of various dry and wet specimens have been displayed along with photographs, charts & Herbarium. The department includes a spacious pharmacognosy laboratory with all necessary equipment like magnifiers, microscope and various chemical reagents to train the students in their practical classes.
